Strategic MOU Signed with Al Rajhi Company to Finance Hulhumalé Grand Mosque Project

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with Saudi Arabia’s Al Rajhi Company to finance the development of the Hulhumalé Grand Mosque.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, during a special ceremony held in Medina as part of his official visit to Saudi Arabia.

The commencement of construction is planned to coincide with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ embrace of Islam, as announced by President Mohamed Muizzu in his Presidential Address.

The mosque complex will feature waqf properties, commercial buildings, and dedicated parking facilities. Revenue generated from the waqf components will be allocated to support Islamic affairs in the Maldives. The project will also include a Quran museum and other key facilities of national significance.

Concept development for the mosque has been completed, with detailed design work currently underway. The project is being designed by international experts, with full financing including design and construction provided by the project’s financier.

Upon completion, the mosque is set to become one of the largest in the Maldives, strategically located between Hulhumalé Phase 2 and Phase 3.
