Initiative Introduced: 20 April 2014

Led the introduction of the Maldives Halal Certification System, establishing the first nationally coordinated regulatory framework governing halal certification in the Republic of Maldives. The initiative was implemented under the Regulation for Issuing Halal Certificates (Regulation No. 1632-R/2013), creating an institutional mechanism to ensure that products and services comply with internationally recognized Shariah standards for halal production and trade.

• Developed and institutionalized a national halal certification body under Ministry of Islamic Affairs and regulatory framework, enabling the verification, monitoring, and certification of food products and related industries in accordance with Islamic dietary laws and internationally accepted halal compliance procedures.
• Strengthened the Maldives’ position within the global halal economy by facilitating internationally recognized halal certification for Maldivian fish products, which represents one of the country’s most significant export industries. Achieved international recognition of the Maldivian Halal logo in August 2014, when it was formally recognized by the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS), one of the leading halal certification authorities in Southeast Asia. This recognition significantly enhanced the credibility of Maldivian halal certification within international markets especially among Muslim consumers worldwide. Subsequently secured recognition from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), one of the most globally respected halal certification bodies, thereby strengthening the international acceptance and regulatory legitimacy of Maldivian halal-certified products.
• Through the establishment of the Maldives Halal Certification System, strengthened the integration of Islamic ethical standards within national economic policy, contributing to the promotion of halal integrity, consumer protection, and the expansion of Shariah-compliant trade within the global halal market.
