Digital Transformation of Islamic Charitable Contributions and Waqf Donations
- Established a digital charitable contribution mechanism through the Bandeyri Pay platform on 27 August 2024, introducing a modern digital payment system that enables the public to contribute conveniently to charitable and endowment initiatives administered by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. The platform allows seamless donations to eight designated Islamic charitable categories, including mosque construction and maintenance, Islamic educational initiatives, Qur’an memorization programmes, Hafiz Umrah sponsorships, Islamic library development, Umrah pilgrimage assistance, and higher education scholarships in Islamic studies. This initiative strengthened public participation in Islamic philanthropy while improving transparency and efficiency in charitable giving.
- Facilitated the establishment of an integrated digital donation mechanism through the VaaruPay platform in collaboration with the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) on 22 March 2025, further advancing the digital transformation of Islamic charitable services. The system enables citizens and residents to contribute electronically to digital cash waqf, khairat (charitable giving), Quran Centre development, mosque construction, and mosque renovation projects. By integrating charitable contributions within a secure national digital payment infrastructure, the initiative enhances accessibility, accountability, and operational efficiency in the management of charitable and endowment funds while encouraging broader public engagement in Islamic social finance initiatives.
